Years ago, Emeriel, a human, was sent to the beastman kingdom as a slave. Her blood restored the feral beast king Daemonikai to sanity. She fled that night, and discovered she was pregnant. For five years, she lives as a blood slave in an apothecary workshop in Ash Town with her three children: Vera, who cannot shift, and sons Aldric and Soren. Daemonikai wakes and tracks her scent to Ash Town. After near misses, Barlow's hunt, and a sewer escape, he saves the dying Emeriel. Reunited, they face Marta's schemes and Zaiper's betrayal. Daemonikai kills Marta and finds a cure that doesn't harm Emeriel or the children. The family of five reunites in the palace, and Emeriel becomes queen.
